re possible sign litigation

we met this evening and had a discussion in which i agreed to be your lawyer and you agreed to be my client, as the plaintiff in a challenge to indiana's political sign regulations.

the purpose of this letter is to document the time date and place of the conversation, so that i can start a billing file. we will need to follow up with a more formal representation agreement, but that is something i can do while on the clock, now that the clock is running.

a few of thing things i mentioned:

i'm not very good at this, and we may lose at some point on procedure if i make a mistake.
if we win or settle someday, you will get less than you expected, an it will take longer than you expected. this is true even when you have already been warned that you'll get less than you think, and it'll take longer than you think. we are both doing it for the principle of the thing. you will have questions, and you may ask anything. i intend to contact you monthly during the first year, an at least quarterly in subsequent years, to keep you updated with the case status. the central issue in the case is whether there is a right, under the state and federal constitutions, to make political signs of one's choice, such as "vote for smith".

this is an open letter. subsequent letters will be marke open or privileged and confidential.

bj is cc'd here in his role as a paralegal if he chooses to accept it. bj, there is an opportunity for you to spend up to 1 hour a week keeping track of the billing records in this case and any other cases that open later. if you do an adequate job at this, it will let you earn rent credit.

it is vitally important that billing records by kept timely and correctly, so i propose that all three of us keep billing records for this case, so at least one good set should survive when  the case concludes. without that i dont get paid, even if we win. there is no guarantee either that we will win, or that i will get paid. it begins. 10;00-10:17 wednesday 12/5/18, ocumenting a meeting 9:43-9:57 12/5/18.
